Rachaels Story –
At the end of 2012 I met a young handsome farmer by the name of Alexander. I’d not long gotten out of a relationship and wasn’t ready for another and he told me “that’s okay” as he just wanted to be friends.
At the beginning of 2013 he had swept me off my feet! I was astounded by the gentle and caring man that he was and on January 5th when he asked me for the 1000th time to be his girlfriend I finally agreed! This would all be thrown into limbo when on January 26th I decided I would move to Wanaaring, 200kms west of Bourke to work for a remote educational service. Through this however he stuck by me, calling every night to talk, sending messages via the wifi since there was no phone service out their and spending every school holidays together when I would go back to the New England for my breaks.
It wasn’t until November 20th of 2013 that my love grew for him even more when he drove from Bendemeer NSW to Bourke NSW late one night and into the early morning to pick me up after I left my job in the outback quite abruptly. I didn’t have a vehicle while working out west, only the work vehicle which I had to leave behind.
From here we decided on the drive home to move in together and give us a real shot! Little did I know what he had planned.
On December 20th 2013 he decided to take me for an early birthday dinner at the spot we first went on a date to nearly 12 months earlier. A gorgeous little cafe in Uralla that’s part second hand book shop and cafe all in one! I was sent outside for half an hour while he got my birthday present organised and was told to not come inside under any circumstances until told to do so. I was eventually allowed back inside and found a yellow Manila envelope with my name on it. The envelope followed me everywhere I went for the afternoon! We eventually arrived at my parents, we had planned to stay there for the night so we could both have a drink or two. We went to town for our date and the entree came out, I asked if I was allowed to open the envelope yet but he said not until dessert, I’m not very good with surprises. I quickly ate my entree and my main and alas, dessert arrived! I was handed the yellow Manila envelope and opened it with so much excitement only to find 4 pieces of blank red paper. I looked up at him to ask what was going on when he was holding a ring in his hand and asked me to marry him! I of course said yes!!!!
12 months of busy planning and on December 6th of 2014 we were married at the Catholic Church in Uralla followed by a lovely reception at Mcrossins mill museum also in Uralla.
We decided after the wedding to try falling pregnant despite me having suspected endometriosis. In August we found out we were expecting! It was the most exciting time! Over Christmas I decided to go and visit a dear friend of mine Hannalise on the central coast and spent a few days with her incredible family and two gorgeous children. During my stay she asked if I would like some photos taken with my bump, I of course said yes! She took took me to a few amazing locations, one of my favourites being by the side of the road with some cattle in the background. The sun was just beginning to set and being from the land this back drop with the cattle in the Back ground made for images I’ll never forget.
On May 16th 2016 we welcomed our beautiful little girl Grace Lillian Laurie into the world! She was 7 pound and 11 ounces. Looking back on the images Hannalise took I cannot believe my belly was ever that big! The photos are something I will treasure forever and when Grace is old enough I will be able to share them with her.
